Summer Fishing
Heating Up
By Rick Henninger
They are still catching walleyes in the weeds on Mosquito. Shad Raps casted along weed edges are working best.
Berlin anglers are taking walleye and crappie. The walleye are being taken by both trollers and drifters while the crappie are most active during late after noon and after dark.
Limit catches of walleye are being taken from Geneva to Conneaut up on Lake Erie. Trollers are taking fish in 60 to 72 feet of water on Dipseys, Jets and wire.
The “perch bite’ has been on fire from Conneaut to Ashtabula. Tom Pinkerton, Linda Donnelly and myself took a limit of perch in 52 feet of water off of Conneaut in just a little over two hours, dock to dock.
Toby Workman was having his morning coffee outside his camper up in Conneaut the other morning when a small fawn came blazing by him, just a few feet away. A few seconds later an adult coyote came running after the fawn. The coyote stopped a few feet away, turned and high tailed it out of there after spotting Toby sitting there. We’ve got to go after these coyotes. There hard on deer fawns and wild turkey polts.
There have been quite a few bear sightings here in northeast Ohio the last few weeks. We do have a resident bear population here in Ohio.
I can remember back in the early sixties when seeing a deer was a big deal.
